Jersy Junction is located in East Grand Rapids,
a small city of 10,000 people in West Michigan near the the larger Grand Rapids. Our old fashioned Ice Cream Parlor is in the historic business section known as Gaslight Village. This area was once the home of a thriving amusement and entertainment venue called Ramona Park (1897 - 1955). You can see old photos from this era on the walls of our dinning room.
Jersey Junction Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor was founded in October of 1963 by
Cris VanAllsburg (left in the photo) whose original plan was to open a home decorating store in the building that now houses Jersey Junction. Jersey Junction was given it's
name in 1963 by Cris, the Jersey comes from her father who was in the dairy business and told her that the Jersey cow produced milk with the highest butterfat content. The
higher the butterfat content the better the quality of the ice cream. The word Junction means where roads join together, a meeting place. Cris went on to become a city
commissioner in East Grand Rapids and sold the store in 1985. Today, nearly 40 years after it's beginning, Jersey Junction is still a fun meeting place.
Current owners Dave and Mari Beswick
purchased the store in October of 1998 and closed it for several months while it was remodeled back into the old fashioned ice cream parlor that it once was. October of 2005 celebrates
43 years of serving East Grand Rapids residents and those of the surrounding communities. The addition of a large scale train that winds around the parlor was added in 1999,
adding to the enjoyment of kids and adults alike. |
